I’m Rayo Abe and am the founder of LagosHouseWife the platform using to teach women how to successfully run their homes and businesses especially how to cook!
I also run three different platforms on instagram which are;

@lagoshousewife:
LagosHouseWife is for all things Women, Wives and Mothers.
LHW Help is an online community where women can ask other women for help and advice of all kinds.

@lhwhelp:

It can be as simple as where to buy shoes or as complex as what to do about infidelity or infertility.

@verifiedvendors:

Verified Vendors is a listing of online businesses that have been tried, tested and verified by customers. This came about to combat fraudulent businesses defrauding people.

WHAT INSPIRE YOU TO START THIS BUSINESS?
It all started with cooking! I saw the stress mothers go through in packing school meals for their children and then someone asked for my help in creating a school lunch timetable for her children. That was the beginning.

FROM HAVING AN IDEA TO STARTING YOUR BUSINESS, SHARE YOUR JOURNEY WITH US?
It has been a serious learning process. From simple cooking to nutrition, to family life and business balance, to helping other mothers and businesses.
Infact, that is a whole different interview on its own.

GREAT IDEAS DON’T ALWAYS MEAN GREAT SALES, HOW HAS IT BEEN MARKETING YOUR SERVICES?
This is another learning curve for me, It has actually been great because of the tremendous support I enjoy from so many women and mothers. I cannot thank them enough.

WHY DO YOU LOVE WHAT YOU DO? THERE ARE SO MANY OTHER BUSINESSES YOU COULD HAVE EXPLORED, WHY THIS BUSINESS?
I am passionate about everything that concerns women and family. Also love to see children safe and loved.
And whatever I can do to make these a reality, I will do with all of me.

DID YOU DISCOVER NEW THINGS ABOUT YOURSELF IN THE COURSE OF STARTING AND RUNNING YOUR BUSINESS?
Oh definitely!
I discovered I am stronger than I thought.
I discovered I cannot do it alone.
I’m a perfectionist, but I learned how to ease up so as to carry people along and how to accommodate different personalities.
I discovered a huge capacity to love and empathise with people
I am growing and maturing every day.
But more than anything else, this has been a personal and intimate walk with God. I have learned how desperately I need the Holy Spirit to help me.

HOW DID YOU RAISE THE CAPITAL TO START YOUR BUSINESS?
Thankfully, mine is not a capital intensive business. My husband and mum were my financiers at the beginning of this business.

WHEN YOU STARTED THIS BUSINESS, DO YOU ENJOY SUPPORT FROM OTHER MOTHERS?
Oh, absolutely!
I owe them more than I can ever repay.

HOW ARE YOU BEING ABLE TO TRANSLATE FROM PAID EMPLOYMENT TO STARTING YOUR OWN BUSINESS?
I was a stay at home mum so it was easy. Or at least – easier, lol

WHAT IS THE ROLE OF HAVING A MENTOR IN BUSINESS SUCCESS STORIES?
I think it’s great. But we shouldn’t feel pressured to have a mentor because everyone says we should.
We should only have one if we know we need one.
And one thing we should understand is that our mentoring needs might evolve and change as we grow. So it is very okay and normal to ‘outgrow’ a mentor.
The role of a mentor is to help a ‘mentee’ grow into his/her own capacity. Not to become a clone of the mentor.

WHAT ARE THE CHALLENGES YOU FACED AS A YOUNG BUSINESS WOMAN AND MOTHER?
Time management was number one
I had to learn how to balance the home and my business
I also had to learn patience. With myself, my husband, my son, and my online followers

WHAT DO YOU THINK ARE THE MOST ESSENTIAL SKILLS FOR WOMEN TO START BUSINESS IN NIGERIA?
Communication!
And this includes not only how to speak but also how to listen and understand the needs of your customers. Plus how to write and connect with your market.

HOW PROFITABLE IS RUNNING YOUR KIND OF BUSINESS?
Very!
It’s a business that caters to people, homes and businesses. As long as those things exist, there will always be a market. My duty is to understand their needs and provide solutions.

DO YOU THINK BEING A MUM CONTRIBUTES TO YOUR SUCCESS IN BUSINESS?
Definitely!
Infact, my business exists because I’m a mum.
Being a mum has helped me connect with other mums. It has helped me understand the needs and challenges of mothers. And it’s a privilege and honour to be able to help mothers

HOW DO YOU MANAGE FAMILY WITH RUNNING YOUR OWN BUSINESS?
With a very supportive and hands on husband!
He is my partner in every way – in home and business.
I also have schedules and I prep in advance on almost everything.
