WHAT INSPIRE YOU TO START THIS BUSINESS?
Uduak Odungide: It was my ability to sell other people’s products that inspired me to start my own business. I discovered while helping them sell their products.
FROM HAVING AN IDEA TO STARTING YOUR BUSINESS, SHARE YOUR JOURNEY WITH US?
Uduak Odungide: My uncle told me he sells palm oil in Abuja in smaller quantities which he gets from the village. After my mother in-law’s burial, I had fifteen thousand nairas which can buy four of 25 litres oil, I bought it. When I came to Lagos I turned the palm oil into smaller quantities and took it to the office. Being the seller I was, I was able to sell them all out in a week. Presently we sell over a hundred gallons.
GREAT IDEAS DON’T ALWAYS MEAN GREAT SALES, HOW HAS IT BEEN MARKETING YOUR SERVICES?
Uduak Odungide: I started first, selling to my colleagues but realized that I needed to expand my market. So I did a course on social media marketing then after I started my Instagram page where most of our sales come from. I also use word of mouth a lot… marketing to people
WHY DO YOU LOVE WHAT YOU DO? THERE ARE SO MANY OTHER BUSINESSES YOU COULD HAVE EXPLORED, WHY THIS BUSINESS?
I love what I do because am good in it, doing it with ease, am happy…..

Uduak Odungide: Aadvertising my products online made me discover I could help someone advertise his or her products as lots of people in business are too shy to talk about their products

Uduak Odungide: At early start-up or early days of my business I didn’t, but when I went for training, during the course of the training I discovered the right women, mentors who have supported me
HOW ARE YOU BEING ABLE TO TRANSLATE FROM PAID EMPLOYMENT TO STARTING YOUR OWN BUSINESS?
Uduak Odungide: I am still on paid employment and thankful for grace to run both for now
WHAT IS THE ROLE OF HAVING A MENTOR IN BUSINESS SUCCESS STORIES?
Uduak Odungide: Yes, it does, as am able to employ patience in raising my kids the same does in my business to my customers. Patience is one of the keys or quality of a good customers service.
WHAT ARE THE CHALLENGES YOU FACED AS A YOUNG BUSINESS WOMAN AND MOTHER?
Uduak Odungide: I face challenges of keeping book records, separating my personal income from my business income and also searching for the right staff.
WHAT DO YOU THINK ARE THE MOST ESSENTIAL SKILLS FOR WOMEN TO START BUSINESS IN NIGERIA?
Uduak Odungide: The essential skills is knowing your business well, as to know how to sell and how it can sell in the Labour market and workforce in general, using the products you sell, because what you don’t like you can sell…have passion for what you do, loyalty, be friendly, customer satisfaction first, good products and also trainings, a necessity before starting out and while in business.
HOW PROFITABLE IS RUNNING YOUR KIND OF BUSINESS?
Uduak Odungide: It is profitable but you must have the skill of knowing the off-peak and on peak seasons
DO YOU THINK BEING A MUM CONTRIBUTES TO YOUR SUCCESS IN BUSINESS?
Uduak Odungide: Yes, it does, have been able to employ patience in raising my kids the same does in my business to my customers. Patience is one of the keys or quality of a good customers service.
HOW DO YOU MANAGE FAMILY WITH RUNNING YOUR OWN BUSINESS?
Uduak Odungide: Though it’s really not been easy, presently I have a timetable that I try to adhere to and I also want to attend some training that will help guide and enable me to balance family and business.
Any advice or tips for Aspiring mumpreneur?
Uduak Odungide: My advise before you start a business, is to go for training to educate you on the business, how to start and all it entails… this will help you, avoid many mistakes. You can also look for someone in the same field or industry of the kind of business you want to go into and learn from the person.
