MUMPRENEURS

Meet our Mumpreneur of the week – Glory Daniel

My name is Glory Daniel. CEO of LachavBabynosh, A baby and toddler food company. I studied Computer Science in the University of Calabar. I have as well different certifications in Computer engineering, Networking & Support Systems. I worked a while in my field of study and delved into Environmental Consulting. Although, I gained experience in this new terrain (EIA), I realized I wasn’t really cut out for the field work. Hence, my decision to quit the job.

WHAT MOTIVATE YOU TO START BABYNOSH FOODS BUSINESS?

I had my baby and after her being exclusively breast-fed (Nothing against complementary feeding), I made research into the industry and I succeeded in making mouth watering recipes with natural meals.

My passion for healthy feeding and proper nutrition, especially among babies and toddlers, the desire to promote the unquantifiable SATISFACTION (of babies) and JOY (of mothers) derived from NATURAL foods over processed foods. Also, I strongly believe in this Mantra – “You are what you eat”.

FROM HAVING AN IDEA TO STARTING YOUR BUSINESS, SHARE YOUR JOURNEY WITH US? HOW SOON DID YOU START MAKING PROFITS?

My first customer was a lady in church. At that time, my baby was 8months likewise hers. During the service, she carried my girl and screamed at her weight (she was and still is a weighty girl). Asked what I feed her and was very interested. Before then, I hadn’t thought of venturing into the baby food business.Infact, I had gotten a contact from a dear friend to go into clothing and jewelries (gone as far as making bookings, with only payment left). I would say that her order came at the right time considering that I had asked for Direction from God. I delivered, she was pleased and the rest they say is history.

February 2016, La’ChavBabynosh was birthed.

BRILLIANT IDEAS DON’T ALWAYS MEAN GREAT SALES, HOW HAS IT BEEN MARKETING YOUR PRODUCTS?

I thought of ways to spread and enlighten a wider market. The idea of taking advantage of my academic background and passion for social media and profiting was strong.

To be honest with you – Responses and Interests from Mothers have not been particularly fantastic. We may still be a work in progress but nevertheless,we are getting a hang of it. So far so good, orders have been pouring in from Lagos, Owerri, Lokoja, Sagamu, Kano, Katsina, PortHarcourt, Minna, Warri, Asaba, Ughelli, Aba, Enugu, Abakiliki, Kaduna, Ibadan, Ado-Ekiti and many more states.

WHY DO YOU LOVE WHAT YOU DO? THERE ARE SO MANY OTHER BUSINESSES YOU COULD HAVE EXPLORED, WHY THIS?

As the saying goes… “Home is where the heart is”… and Passion lies in the heart. I have great PASSION for Computer, Social Media and Healthy Feeding & Proper Nutrition, and when the opportunity popped up, through BabyNosh, to WORK with what I’m passionate about, I simply followed my heart.

I would summarize my journey as both fun and fulfilling. My best moments have been when I receive messages or calls from satisfied mothers who are pleased with my products and services. Nothing compares to knowing that I have put a smile on their faces and eased the feeding process as we all know could be daunting.

DID YOU  DISCOVER NEW THINGS ABOUT YOURSELF IN THE COURSE OF STARTING AND RUNNING YOUR BUSINESS?

One of the most challenging yet most fulfilling job ever is being a mom. You do not realize how strong you really are until you become a mother and developing and running a business requires all round STRENGTH – Spiritual, Mental, Emotional. Financial, etc.I have always been a strong person but I strongly believe the SURGED-UP inert RESILIENCE,especially to break START-UP INERTIA and pessimism and discouragements, sums it for me.

Also the DIVINE ENGRACEMENT from God to juggle the different tasks I am now involved in/exposed to, as seen in my abilities to identify and sort out my priorities and a well-designed and adhered to SCALE OF PREFERENCE has really helped.

It has not been all easy, yet again, nothing good is easy.

HOW DID YOU RAISE THE CAPITAL TO START YOUR BUSINESS?

After sharing my business idea with my hubby, and seeing my passion for,and how healthy our daughter is from Natural Foods, he assisted and is still involved in the Business Plans, Developments and Financing.

HOW ARE YOU BEING ABLE TO TRANSLATE FROM PAID EMPLOYMENT TO STARTING YOUR OWN BUSINESS?

Launching a business is the hardest thing I have ever done. But having a good product, good packaging, a supportive husband, family and friends has made it easy.

Clearly, I have the passion. However, growing the business to be the most sought after baby food, competing favorably with established brands, meeting all regulatory requirements and creating unique food and drink varieties that will culminate into a trademark brand is the next phase for us.

WHAT IS THE ROLE OF HAVING A MENTOR IN BUSINESS SUCCESS STORIES?

For me, as enshrined by my spouse in all we do, it provides the “SHOULDERS/PLATFORM” to start from, instead of crawling on the ground.  Meet our Mumpreneur of the week – Bukola Afolabi

WHAT ARE THE CHALLENGES YOU FACED AS A YOUNG BUSINESS WOMAN AND MOTHER?

Apart from the everyday unique business and motherhood challenges, the additional compound challenge of EFFECTIVE and EFFICIENT inter-marring and managing both, together with my “Wifely” responsibilities is it for me.

WHAT DO YOU THINK ARE THE MOST ESSENTIAL SKILLS FOR WOMEN TO START BUSINESS IN NIGERIA?

Passion, Patience, Perseverance and Excellent Inter-personal Relationship         Meet our Mumpreneur of the week : Temi Ajibewa, TheMillionaireHousewife

HOW PROFITABLE IS BABY FOODS BUSINESS?

For us our main profit in Babynosh is NOT financial, but it is in the privileged opportunities to “GIVE-BACK” through our various give-back channels, such as:

  • Brand Charity Arm: …where a young lady made a post asking for help after being abandoned by the baby daddy. After the verification of her story, we contacted her and deliver our healthy nutritional products free of charge.
  • Refer and Earn Arm: …where a single lady followed our laid out procedures to refer her contact to our products and made commission on each product bought.
  • Yummy Baby Competition: (running from 10th November– 15th December, 2017).

DO YOU THINK BEING A MUM CONTRIBUTES TO YOUR SUCCESS IN BUSINESS?

YES!!! Not only did my baby birth my business, my daughter is the Brand Ambassador and physical advertisement of my business.

HOW DO YOU SUCCESSFULLY MANAGE FAMILY WITH YOUR BUSINESS?

By the GRACE of GOD.
