HERE ARE THE QUESTIONS:
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START 2NURTURE?
I grew up like a normal kid; but the older I got, the more I felt less sure about myself. I didn’t know who I was, what to believe about myself or what I was capable of. I felt blank. And of course, the blankness quickly filled up with insecurities, fear and doubt. I allowed negative experiences, comments or opinions of other people define me. I wasn’t grounded in any particular knowledge of who I was. I didn’t have a healthy sense of self.
I absolutely love my parents, they did the best they could, they just weren’t aware of the need to help me grasp who I was and develop a healthy sense of self. And they aren’t the only ones, there are other well-meaning parents out there who are not just aware of the need to foster their kids’ sense of self. And even though I wasn’t and still isn’t a parent yet, I knew there was a need to do something. It is beyond me just being a better parent to my kids. I knew there was need for a larger awakening- for every parent and parent-to-be to be aware of the capacity they have not just to nurture their kids’ bodies or send them to school, but to nurture their minds. Because we all are products of our minds, our predominant thoughts, who we think we are, and what we think we can do shape our lives. For truly, what goes into a mind comes out in a life. I knew I had to create a platform that helps parents become aware of the need to nurture their kids’ minds and also to help them keep a grand and positive vision of their kids before them.
So, 2Nurture was created as a platform to partner with parents as they fortify their kids’ sense of self & sense of possibilities. We started by sharing daily positive declarations on social media platforms and have since diversified to other products & platforms.
BRILLIANT IDEAS DON’T ALWAYS MEAN GREAT SALES, HOW HAS IT BEEN MARKETING YOUR PRODUCTS?
It’s truly been a journey! As we’ve needed to really explain what our products are about and why parents need them, since they are unique. We are still on the journey though. But with persistence and continued marketing and exposure we believe we will gain higher grounds. It’s up to us not to give up!
WHY ARE YOU PASSIONATE ABOUT THIS CREATIVE BUSINESS FOR CHILDREN? THERE ARE SO MANY OTHER BUSINESSES YOU COULD HAVE EXPLORED.
Hmmmm… there are times I’ve wondered same myself. Why not do some other regular business that’s easy to market or more mainstream? Especially when the bills are piling and you’re wondering ‘Oh God who sent me message o?’ But I am reminded time and time again of the vital need what we do at 2Nurture meets. It’s truly fulfilling that we are empowering young minds to become aware of who they are as God’s masterpieces and of their amazing possibilities. I believe this need is of paramount importance. And, I love that we can daily remind parents to speak positively over their children’s lives.
DID YOU DISCOVER NEW THINGS ABOUT YOURSELF IN THE COURSE OF STARTING AND RUNNING THIS BUSINESS?
I think I’ve been deeply encouraged by my capacity to be consistent, being daily able to post, engage and interact with our audience across platforms has demanded consistency, which prior to 2Nurture I didn’t know I had in some good degree.
And yes on a lighter note, I’ve discovered a knack for graphic designing, which I didn’t know I had before and was brought to light by the demands of the startup entrepreneur life, when you need to be super-resourceful to get things done in a budget friendly way (winks).
WHAT DO YOU THINK ARE THE MOST ESSENTIAL SKILLS FOR WOMEN TO START THEIR OWN BUSINESS?
Passion, I believe, is key. You’ve got to be passionate about what you intend to do and the solution you believe it will provide. The willingness to adapt, change and be creative. The doggedness to keep forging ahead. The ability to dream and to dare to act and keep dreaming again, even when the previous dream wasn’t a hands-down success.
IN ONE SENTENCE, WHAT IS THE WORD YOU HAVE FOR NIGERIAN PARENTS?
Nurture your kids’ minds, what goes into a mind comes out in a life!
