Osayi Lasisi enjoys writing, telling stories and connecting with people, but she always thought that she wanted to be a lawyer. After getting her law degree and passing the bar exam, she realized that she wasn’t feeling fulfilled and decided to learn graphic design.

Before long she realized that she had fallen in love, gave up practicing law and started focusing on helping businesses with marketing and communications.

5+ years later she discovered virtual summits and how virtual summits help businesses accomplish their marketing goals in a short period of time (marketing on steroids).

Since then she has been focusing on helping businesses use virtual summits to get the attention, clients and income that they would like to get.

Thank you so much Motherhoodng for this interview. It is truly a privilege

WHAT MOTIVATE YOU TO START A VIRTUAL SUMMIT BUSINESS?

I realized that Virtual Summits are like Marketing on Steroids. So whenever a business wanted to get more attention or get more clients, they could go the slower route and eventually get the attention they want, or they could launch a virtual summit and get exponentially more attention.

FROM HAVING AN IDEA TO STARTING YOUR BUSINESS, SHARE YOUR JOURNEY WITH US? HOW SOON DID YOU START MAKING PROFITS?

I started making profits from my first virtual summit. Maybe it was because I had been learning many skills for many years so I didn’t need to pay anyone to create a website, or run facebook ads for me or anything like that. I had already learned how to do it, so it was a bit easier for me.

BRILLIANT IDEAS DON’T ALWAYS MEAN GREAT SALES, HOW HAS IT BEEN MARKETING YOUR SERVICES?

I think the best part about a virtual summit is that people get a free period where they get to sample what you have to offer. When they see that it is good, then they are more likely to pay.

Marketing for something that is free tends to be a lot easier, but the most important thing is making sure that you’re offering something that will be useful for people.

DID YOU DISCOVER NEW THINGS ABOUT YOURSELF IN THE COURSE OF STARTING AND RUNNING YOUR BUSINESS?

oh yes, I discovered that I am genuinely interested in other people’s stories – and that is probably why I’m good at running interviews. I also discovered that it doesn’t hurt to ask. Sometimes people will say no, sometimes they will say yes, but in the end you won’t know if you don’t try.

HOW ARE YOU BEEN ABLE TO TRANSLATE FROM PAID EMPLOYMENT TO STARTING YOUR BUSINESS?

Well I’m still in paid employment. My business is still a side business for now. I love what I do in paid employment, so I keep doing it, keep learning and keep investing in my clients.

WHAT IS THE ROLE OF HAVING A MENTOR IN BUSINESS SUCCESS STORIES?

Oh goodness, I have had some of the most amazing mentors – some younger than me, some older than me.

I think the best part of having a mentor, is having someone who is will to risk their reputation on you, I am forever grateful to people like that in my life. I couldn’t have done anything without their support and encouragement.

WHAT DO YOU THINK ARE THE MOST ESSENTIAL SKILLS FOR WOMEN TO START A HOMEBASED OR ONLINE BUSINESS IN NIGERIA?

I would say take time to do the research.

Truly understand what problem you’re solving, and who you can help solve that problem.

Don’t just start a business that everyone else is doing. If you really understand the problem you are solving you won’t be distracted by other things, and if you really understand who needs your help, you can really focus on them.

And then make sure you have great customer service – Word of Mouth will get you more clients than even advertising.

HOW PROFITABLE IS HOME-BASED BUSINESS?

A Home-based business is just like any other business, it’s only profitable if you’re solving a problem.

DO YOU THINK BEING A MUM CONTRIBUTE TO YOUR SUCCESS IN BUSINESS?

I think it contributes to my success because I’ve had to be more organized and more aggressive – because I don’t have the luxury of time. I’ve also had to learn how to juggle everything, which has made me a more versatile business owner.

HOW DO YOU SUCCESSFULLY MANAGE FAMILY WITH YOUR BUSINESS?

I think the main thing is that my husband is the most amazing human being in the whole wide world. He is extremely supportive and willing to help me when I need his help. I think because of him I’m able to take risks, and make some sacrifices which I couldn’t have made without him.

Thank you once again for the opportunity
