I’m Temi Ajibewa, popularly called #TheMillionaireHousewife. I’m married with two children and I run a home-based business. Although a graduate of English Language and Law, I’m a serial entrepreneur because I strongly believe in multiple streams of income. In today’s economy, a single stream of income is likely to lead to frustration and make one compromise one’s values. WHAT MOTIVATE YOU TO START A HOME-BASED BUSINESS AND NOT PRACTICE LAW?
I started my home based business purely out of coincidence. I had always been an entrepreneur who sold any and everything but until I got introduced into an online business which I could do from the comfort of my home, I didn’t know that I would not practice law.
It became a matter of choosing between to passions – Law and business, and pitching my tent with the most profitable and scalable one – online business.
WHAT FORM YOUR BUSINESS BRAND NAME ‘The millionaire housewife’?
The brand name came from my peculiar position as a stay at home mum who makes money from home. You know generally, our society ascribes being broke to being a housewife because she’s not out there working her nails off as most women do. I used to have that thought too until I began a business that all I needed was my mobile phone and the internet and I began to make millions.
Now, let me quickly clear the air that there is no money on the internet per se. Where the money is is in you. You in the sense that you sell your products and services online or you advertise yourself online and people would buy from you without seeing you simply because you have built your profile enough to become known, liked and trusted.
In essence, there is no free money on the internet. You have to bring value if you want to make money online.
BRILLIANT IDEAS DON’T ALWAYS MEAN GREAT SALES, HOW HAS IT BEEN MARKETING YOUR SERVICES?
Marketing my services have really been quite exciting lately because I have mastered the art of selling online by obeying the KLT Principle which is the Know Like and Trust principle. It is generally said that people buy from those they know, like and trust.
People will know you when you show up in your business daily to promote your brand, they will like you when you add value to their lives and answer questions around their pain points while trust will come in when you’re consistent.
I have learnt to show up daily in my business through my daily posts and videos on social media and i deliver value to my audience which builds my Like factor and because I do this consistently and deliver quality service to those who have engaged my services, I have become a trusted brand.
It’s that simple, really.
WHY ARE YOU PASSIONATE ABOUT THIS BUSINESS? THERE ARE SO MANY OTHER BUSINESSES YOU COULD HAVE EXPLORED, WHY HOME-BASED BUSINESS?
Running a home-based business in my case simply means I’m leveraging on the internet to grow my several businesses. I love to teach and also love to help start and grow small businesses so I do this online by consulting virtually for my clients. I coach my clients online using Skype, Zoom and other softwares, I hold group coaching programs on closed facebook groups and Whatsapp and I also have several online courses in my virtual shops, ranging from ebooks to video courses, which anyone can buy from without me being there.
That I can do all these without leaving my home just makes this an obvious wise choice for me to explore.
I mean what else can a woman ask for than to be able to cater for her young family and make millions conveniently without having to bend over backwards slaving away in the sun or in some corporate cold cells.
DID YOU DISCOVER NEW THINGS ABOUT YOURSELF IN THE COURSE OF STARTING AND RUNNING YOUR BUSINESS?
Oh yes, I did. I discovered my weakness and ignorance and I also discovered that the more I practised the things I learnt, the better I became so I made up my mind to keep learning and keep doing till I become a master at my trade.
As I work with several other women who want to start online businesses, I discovered that women are quite tenacious and if only they can get some handholding and support from someone who has done it before, they would achieve so much more and this was why I created The Millionaire Housewife Academy which is over a year old and currently with over 12,000 membership strength containing women from Nigerian, Ghana, United Kingdom, USA, UAE and a few more.
As I worked with the women in the Facebook group, I also discovered that many people know what they should be doing but simply last self-discipline so I introduced my Inner Circle program where I mentor a group of women separately daily to achieve their goals.
In the course of starting and running my business, I also learnt that the world is not going to bring the spotlight to you, you have to walk into it. Therefore, in all I do, I work hard both at being good at my trade and getting the world to notice me and make way for me.
Most importantly, I have discovered that people love and respect originality so I don’t have have to try and be someone else but myself totally.
WHAT IS THE ROLE OF HAVING A MENTOR IN YOUR BUSINESS SUCCESS STORIES?
The roles of my mentors cannot be quantified. I’d just say: Everyone needs a mentor because mentors give you the psychological permission to be great.
WHAT DO YOU THINK ARE THE MOST ESSENTIAL SKILLS FOR WOMEN TO START ONLINE BUSINESS? The most essential skill is discipline. Because this kind of business allows one freedom the time and to work at one’s pace, indiscipline is likely to set in which would result in unproductivity. Also because the work also includes some social media marketing, this can be very disctracting as one would just spend hours chatting instead of working online.
Another skill needed is actually more of an attitude than a skill and that is a learning mind. The online world is always changing and if you’re not careful, what you learnt yesterday will not work today so a woman has to always be ready to learn not matter how overwhelming it may seem. I usually would prescribe you learning one new thing about your niche daily.
HOW PROFITABLE IS ONLINE BUSINESS? Online business can be very profitable when it is done properly. Remember it is primarily a business and must be tended with all dedication and hardwork. Once one gets the hang of its technicalities and has a working system in place, you’re great to go. Online business is highly scalable so the potentials are limitless.
DO YOU THINK BEING A MUM CONTRIBUTES TO YOUR SUCCESS IN BUSINESS? Yes, to a very large extent. My children were my BIG WHY when I was starting out. Then you know being a mum kind of makes you a super human so I guess that contributed to it.
HOW DO YOU SUCCESSFULLY MANAGE FAMILY WITH YOUR BUSINESS? Honestly, I would not say I manage well. Let me just say I am coping well. lol. Thankfully, I have a mentor who told me at the very beginning of my business growth that there’s no such this as family-work balance for a woman especially if you an Alpha woman.
WHAT SKILLS DO YOU THINK ARE ESSENTIAL TO RUN A HOMEBASED BUSINESS? Basic knowledge of how a smart phone works, the use of google and browser are skills that are essential to run an online business. Knowledge of desktop publishing will be a huge advantage and so is any other application or software but most importantly readiness to learn and implement.
